Washboard roads led to dispersed night camping, waking up to find we were surrounded by 200 year old saguaro cacti. Peaking through the window, I ran outside (almost forgetting pants) to gaze at the moon. Every coyote west of Tucson was howling as tears rolled down my face, watching the moon set behind the desert mountains. It was a warm welcome back to the road after a long year at home during the height of the pandemic. A magic moment like this can never be planned. Like my dad always says - timing is everything.
